A Five-Year Coating Is Only as Good as the Paint Under It

Anyone can talk about water beads and shine. The real work happens before the coating is applied.

Ceramic coating does not remove swirl marks, scratches, oxidation or etched water spots. If those defects are left in the paint, the coating simply protects the finish in its existing condition. Correcting them later would require polishing through the coating and treating the affected area again.

That is why every Ceramic Coating package at The Detail Boss begins with an exterior hand wash, paint decontamination, clay-bar treatment and machine polishing. The coating protects the result, but the preparation is what creates the clarity.

You are not simply paying for a bottle of coating. You are paying for the inspection, preparation, correction and application required to make it perform properly.

Protection for a Vehicle That Actually Gets Driven

Vehicles around Owasso and Tulsa face triple-digit summer temperatures, wind, pollen, insects, rain, road film and mineral-bearing tap water. Ceramic coating cannot make those problems disappear, but it creates a slicker, more chemically resistant surface that is easier to clean and maintain.

Contamination releases more easily, water runs off faster and properly washed paint is exposed to less repeated scrubbing. The vehicle still needs to be washed and dried, but maintaining the finish should require less work than an unprotected surface.

Easier Washing

Dirt, bugs and road film release more easily from the slick coated surface.

Longer-Lasting Protection

The coating provides more durable environmental and chemical resistance than conventional wax.

Deeper Gloss

Proper correction improves clarity before the coating enhances and protects the finish.

What Ceramic Coating Does—and What It Doesn't

What It Does

  • Enhances gloss and paint clarity
  • Creates hydrophobic water behavior
  • Makes dirt and road film easier to remove
  • Helps resist environmental and chemical contamination
  • Provides longer-lasting protection than conventional wax
  • Reduces the effort required for proper maintenance

What It Doesn't Do

  • It does not make the vehicle scratch-proof
  • It does not prevent rock chips
  • It does not eliminate washing
  • It does not remove existing paint defects
  • It does not prevent every mineral water spot
  • It does not replace paint protection film

Ceramic coating does not provide physical protection against rock chips and road debris. It improves gloss, chemical resistance and ease of maintenance rather than acting as a physical barrier.

Two Correction Levels. One Five-Year Coating.

Both packages include the same advertised 5-year ceramic coating. The difference is how extensively the paint is corrected before the coating is applied.

Stage Two Ceramic Coating

  • Full exterior preparation
  • Exterior hand wash
  • Paint decontamination
  • Clay-bar treatment
  • Stage Two machine polish
  • Designed to remove approximately 90% of visible paint defects
  • 5-year ceramic coating
  • 5-year warranty
  • Basic interior detail
  • Three free maintenance washes
  • Maintenance washes have no expiration date
Small Cars & Sedans$1,100
Trucks & SUVs$1,300

Final correction recommendations depend on paint thickness, defect depth and the vehicle's existing condition. Deep scratches, chips and damage extending beyond the clear coat may remain.

Which Package Does Your Paint Need?

Choose Stage One when:

  • The vehicle is new or relatively well maintained
  • Swirls are light and mostly visible under direct lighting
  • The primary goal is better gloss and long-term protection
  • Major correction is unnecessary

Choose Stage Two when:

  • Swirl marks are easily visible in sunlight
  • Automatic washes have left noticeable paint damage
  • The finish has visible haze or moderate defects
  • Greater clarity is desired before the coating is installed

You do not need to diagnose the paint yourself. The Detail Boss can inspect the finish and confirm the appropriate correction level before work begins. Learn how paint correction prepares the finish before ceramic coating.

How the Ceramic Coating Process Works

01

Hand Wash & Decontamination

A thorough multi-bucket exterior wash followed by chemical iron removal and physical clay-bar treatment to strip bonded surface contaminants.

02

Machine Paint Correction

Precision machine polishing to eliminate light-to-moderate swirls, hazing, and water spot etching so the paint beneath the coating is smooth and clear.

03

Panel Wipe Down & Inspection

Isopropyl alcohol prep spray to eliminate all residual polishing oils and lubricants, ensuring direct chemical bonding to the bare clear coat.

04

Ceramic Coating Application

Hand application of our professional 5-year 9H nano-ceramic coating panel by panel, cross-hatched for complete and even coverage.

05

Leveling & Buff Off

Careful monitoring of the coating's flash time followed by high-pile microfiber leveling to eliminate high spots and leave a deep mirror shine.

06

Controlled Curing & Final Check

Initial indoor curing in our climate-controlled bay before inspection under multi-angle color-check LED lighting prior to customer delivery.

Ceramic Coating Still Needs Care

A coated vehicle is easier to maintain, not maintenance-free. Safe washing and prompt removal of contamination help preserve its appearance and hydrophobic performance.

Wait 7 Days Before Washing

Allow the coating to fully cross-link and cure. Avoid moisture and do not wash the vehicle during the initial 7-day cure window.

Hand Wash Only (Two-Bucket Method)

Never run the vehicle through abrasive automated tunnel car washes. Use pH-neutral automotive shampoo and clean microfiber mitts.

Promptly Remove Bird Droppings & Bugs

Although the coating provides strong chemical resistance, organic acids should be gently wiped away as soon as practical.

Use Maintenance Washes

Take advantage of the three included maintenance washes at our Owasso shop to keep the hydrophobic layer performing at its peak.
